QUI GATTA CI COVA!
A covare di solito sono le galline, ma nei detti popolari a volte lo possono fare anche i gatti!
Nel momento in cui un gatto sta per fare i gattini, inizia a comportarsi in modo strano, si infila in spazi della casa nascosti e protetti che normalmente non frequenta. Quindi quando il gatto si comporta così c'è qualcosa che sta per accadere, c'è "sotto qualcosa".
Questo è quanto pensavo fosse il motivo dell’origine del detto, ma ci sono altre interpretazioni, ad esempio la posizione del gatto che sta per attaccare, secondo alcuni ricorda quella della gallina che cova l’uovo.
In ogni caso, il significato dell’espressione, è che la situazione è ambigua, poco chiara, c’è il sospetto che ci sia sotto un trucco, qualcosa che potrebbe essere anche disonesto.

Covare (to brood): l’atto di sedersi su un uovo per farlo aprire e far nascere il pulcino.
Comportarsi ( to behave): il modo in cui una persona agisce.
Ambiguo/a (ambiguous): che non è chiaro, che crea dubbi e quindi da origine a sospetto.
Sospetto (suspicious): che crea dubbio nei confronti del comportamento di qualcuno.
Trucco (catch): un inganno, che nasconde la realtà per un fine disonesto.
Disonesto (dishonest): è il contrario di onesto, cioè di persona che non segue la morale o le leggi e si comporta in modo non corretto.
