Have you ever heard of the Sunday scaries? It’s that feeling of anxiety that many people get on Sunday night when they start to think (and worry) about going back to work on Monday morning. I used to get this feeling, too. When I still worked at a school, I never slept well on Sunday nights. I would toss and turn while thinking about my lesson plans and worrying that I had forgotten something, and very often I would even dream about arriving at my class unprepared!
For me, it wasn’t too bad, but for some people, the Sunday scaries can be like a full-blown panic attack, and a recent survey found that “75% of working Americans say they experience the ‘Sunday scaries’.” While having a stable, Monday to Friday schedule has many advantages, this is certainly one of the downsides! Now that I work a little bit every day of the week, I no longer experience the Sunday scaries, but I still have that dream about showing up for class unprepared every once in a while. Maybe teachers never escape from that one!
