Quick tips: how to say it's hot

Zach McLaughlin

The summer heat has arrived, and everyone is talking about 30+ degree temperatures. So, how can you say it’s hot without using the word “hot”? Here are some other options:

Scorching: very hot

Boiling: extremely hot

Sweltering: uncomfortably hot

Blazing: very bright and hot

As you can see from their dictionary definitions, these adjectives all mean pretty much the same thing - very hot!

And what if that heat comes with humidity?

Muggy: unpleasantly warm and humid

Steamy: hot and humid

Sticky: hot and damp

Stifling: very hot and causing difficulties in breathing

So, the next time you need to complain about the heat (and we all do), why not try some new vocabulary?
