Quick tips: stressful vs. stressed (out)

Zach McLaughlin

When it comes to adjectives, one of the most common mistakes I hear is when people use the word “stressful” to describe their own feelings.

“I’m so stressful,” they say. However, what they mean is “I’m so stressed (out).”

Both words are adjectives, but “stressful” describes the thing that causes stress and “stressed (out)” describes the feeling itself. After a stressful day at work, you feel stressed (out).

Also, while you probably know that “stress” is a noun, did you know it can also be used as a verb? You can say to someone “Don’t stress about/over it!” when you don’t want them to worry about something.
