Common idiomatic expressions of time.

2024년 1월 15일

Time is one of the most important things we can have, use or waste.
Did you have a New Year's Resolution that relied on you managing your time better? How are you doing concerning your resolutions for 2024?

Can you guess the meaning of these idioms by working out the meaning of the supporting sentence?

A) might not make sense to people who work in a culture where it is ok to sleep at your desk.

How about these two?

A) Taking your time literally means not rushing or doing something in your own time.

However B) is more complicated as are most idioms.
For the time being means for a limited time or temporarily.
i.e. Pam will stop working a second job when her husband gets a new one. At the moment Pam is the only one making money and she needs to make as much as possible. Working two jobs will be exhausting for Pam but she will only be doing it for a short amount of time.

From what you have understood, can you now match the idioms with their meanings?

Next, we need to make sentences with the help of pictures.
Two of the idioms should now seem familiar to you.
