Ukusefya Pa Ngwena: A Bemba traditional ceremony

주간 토픽: What marks the start of spring in your culture?

Ms Judy

In Zambia, during the August month of Winter, the Bemba tribe has a special party called "Ukusefya Pa Ngwena". This party is about remembering how the Bemba kingdom started long ago.

It began over 600 years ago in a place called Kola, which is now in Angola. It ended in Ngwena village, where the party happens.

At the party, the Chitimukulu, who is like the leader of the Bemba tribe, sits on a throne. But it's not an ordinary throne—it looks like a crocodile made of paper mache! People play drums and dance, and there's yummy traditional food and drinks to enjoy.

It's another way the Bemba tribe celebrate their culture and history. The parties are important because they help the Bemba people remember where they come from and keep their traditions alive.

It's a time for everyone to come together, young and old, and have fun while honoring their heritage. So, as the seasons change, let's join the Bemba tribe in celebrating their special traditions and culture!
