日本は 明日から ゴールデンウィークです。
ゴールデンウィーク（GW）とは、４月末から５月初めの 大型連休（おおがたれんきゅう）のことを いいます。
祝日が 連続（れんぞく）しているので、特別（とくべつ）な 週間（しゅうかん）です。

子どもたち、土曜・日曜・祝日が 休みの 社会人にとって この日は 旅行に 行ったり、帰省（きせい）したり、楽しみな 時期（じき）です。
It will soon be "Golden Week" in Japan.
Golden Week is a special holiday week in Japan that is from the end of April to early May. We call it Golden Week because it contains several national holidays.
For children and adults who are off on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays, these days are a time to travel, return home, and have fun.
2024年の ゴールデンウィークは ４月27日（土）～５月６日（月）まで です。
どんな 祝日が あるのか、見てみましょう。
⚫︎４月29日（月）は「昭和の日（しょうわのひ）」Showa Day
昭和天皇（しょうわてんのう）を 偲ぶ（しのぶ）日です。
昭和天皇が 生きていた 時代は、「天皇誕生日（てんのうたんじょうび）」として 祝われました。
The day used to be celebrated as the birthday of the Emperor of Showa. It's a day to reflect on Japan’s Showa period when recovery was made after the turbulent times and to think about the future of Japan.
⚫︎５月３日（金）は「憲法記念日（けんぽうきねんび）」Constitution Memorial Day

日本国憲法（にほんこくけんぽう）が できたことを 記念して、国の 成長（せいちょう）を 願う日です。 昭和22年の この日に できました。
On May 3, 1947, the current Constitution of Japan came into effect. It is a day to pray for the growth of the nation.
＊憲法記念日は 世界の国々（くにぐに）に 存在しています。
例えば、アメリカは ９月17日、世界で 最も 古い 憲法だそうです。
ポーランドは 日本と 同じ５月３日！ ポーランドは アメリカの 次に 古いそうです。

Constitution Day exists in many countries around the world.

＊男の子がいる 家庭では、鯉（こい）のぼり・兜（かぶと）などを 飾ります。
鯉のぼりは 「家族」を 表します。 黒い鯉は お父さん、赤い鯉は お母さん、小さい鯉は 子どもです。
Families with boys decorate carp streamers, helmets, and May dolls. The carp streamers represent the family. The black carp is the father, the red carp is the mother, and the small carp are the children.

実は、最近、TVなど 放送業界（ほうそうぎょうかい）では「ゴールデンウィーク」という言い方は あまり しません。 なぜならば、医療関係者（いりょうかんけいしゃ）など、休日出勤（きゅうじつしゅっきん）を する人に とっては、ゴールデンウィークでは ないからです。
最近は、彼らに 気（き）を 配り（くばり）、「大型連休」という 言い方を しています。
In fact, the term “Golden Week” is not used very often these days in the broadcasting industry, such as on TV. This is because for those who work on holidays, such as medical professionals, it is not a golden week. Recently, we have been using the term “long holiday” to accommodate them.
私たちが ゆっくり 休むことが できるのは 医療関係者など 祝日も 働いている人がいるおかげ。 私も このことに 感謝（かんしゃ）して 楽しく 過ごしたいと 思います。
We are able to take a rest thanks to medical professionals and people who work on holidays.
