Goodbye 2024 - Hello 2025!

주간 토픽: New years resolutions for 2025

Zach McLaughlin

Happy New Year, everyone! As I look back on 2024 and look ahead to 2025, these are some of my reflections and goals. In a follow-up article (to be published shortly), I will add more information about some of the vocabulary in this article.

Learning: I must admit that I was incredibly lazy about studying new things in 2024, and my language studies and professional development were left by the wayside. In 2025, I need to get back into studying Japanese and also start attending ESL teaching seminars and workshops again, starting with an IELTS seminar on January 15th!

Exercising: Aside from walking, jogging, and a bit of hiking, I wasn’t very active in 2024. In 2025, I’d like to create a daily workout routine in order to get away from my computer and get back into shape. Who knows, I may even start doing a bit of yoga again!

Cooking: It seems like I’ve been making the same dishes for several years, so one of my goals in 2025 is to cook at least one new dish each week. So, hopefully by the end of the year, I will have 52 new dishes in my cooking repertoire!

Reading: I was only able to get through about 6 books in 2024 (far fewer than I had hoped!). Most of my reading in 2024 consisted of online articles, which were informative but also often about depressing topics. In 2025 I’d like to spend more time reading away from my computer. Right now, I’m just finishing up a book about traveling through Papua New Guinea, and after that, I’ll start a new book about the Celts.

Writing: I used to love writing stories, but I haven’t done this in many years. In 2025, I’d like to get back into writing, so I’m going to start with some mini (100-word) stories and then work my way up to some longer ones.

Traveling: 2024 was a great year for traveling. I visited Japan for 3 weeks and also explored my home province of Ontario, going to places such as Barrie, Niagara Falls, and Manitoulin Island. I don’t plan to do much traveling in 2025, though I would like to fly out to Saskatoon (in western Canada) to visit some friends.

Cleaning: I’m still thinking about leaving Toronto in the next 1-2 years, so I’ll be making an effort to clean up my apartment and get rid of lots of stuff in 2025 in order to make the eventual move a bit easier.

I can also say that I’m looking forward to seeing the movies Nosferatu and Mufasa at the theatre soon, but as for my other plans for 2025, I’m keeping them close to my chest for now. So, until next time, take care and I wish you all the best for 2025!
