I’m an only child, so I spent a lot of time playing by myself when I was young, and the toy that I enjoyed the most was LEGO. Even when my friends came over, I just wanted to play LEGO with them. So, it’s probably not surprising that I dreamed of becoming a LEGO set designer when I was a kid!
I stopped building LEGO models in high school, but I continued to enjoy designing things in drafting class, where I got into using AutoCAD and drawing blueprints for houses. When I went to art college and studied as a technical illustrator, I sometimes drew inspiration from LEGO for my projects, such as exploded-view drawings. After I switched my career to teaching, I got back into LEGO and started a LEGO club at the language school where I worked, which I ran until the Covid pandemic forced us to shut down.
Although I gave up on my childhood dream of becoming a LEGO designer long ago, LEGO still has a special place in my heart and I hope that I will continue to build LEGO sets for fun for many years to come!
