The Song I Can’t Get Out of My Head: “Daylight” by Taylor Swift

TEACHER PAT007

As an English teacher, I often tell my students that language isn’t just about grammar or vocabulary—it’s about expression, emotion, and connection. And sometimes, a song captures all of that so perfectly, it stays with you.

Lately, “Daylight” by Taylor Swift has been that song for me. It’s gentle, introspective, and beautifully written. The lyric “I once believed love would be burning red, but it's golden, like daylight” stopped me in my tracks. It’s a simple yet profound metaphor, and a great example of how powerful figurative language can be.

I often encourage my students to listen to music not just for enjoyment, but to learn how artists play with words, create imagery, and express emotion. Daylight is a masterclass in all of that. It’s also a reminder that learning English can be soft, reflective, and deeply personal.

So if you're looking for a new song to spark thought—or to use in a lesson on metaphor or tone—give it a listen. You might just find yourself humming it for days.
