Making suggestions in meetings - Business English

To make suggestions to native English speakers there are 3 important steps:

  1. Make a suggestion
  2. Explain the reason(s) for your suggestion 
  3. Repeat your suggestion

Here's an example:

Imagine that you’re in a business meeting. You are deciding how to advertise your company’s products. Do you use TV commercials, newspaper adverts, etc?

Your idea is that social media marketing is the best:


Step 1: Make a suggestion:
I think we should focus more on social media advertising.

Step 2: Explain the reasons for your suggestion
Recently, most of our customers have come from Instagram and TikTok. Also, social media is cheaper than TV or newspaper adverts.

Step 3: Repeat your suggestion:
So I really believe that social media is the best way to advertise right now.
