How to build a relaxing evening routine - The British way

Weekly Topic: Autumn is a season that makes you want to start something new. What will you choose?

Michelle GL

After a long day, many of us want to relax, recharge and prepare for tomorrow. I have worked many long stressful shifts throughout my career so I know how important a relaxing evening routine is. In the UK, evenings are often a time for slow comfort- enjoying little rituals and routines that bring peace before bed.

My evening routine includes:

- A Cup of Tea : In the UK, tea isn't just a drink, it's a way to unwind. I often have a herbal tea or decaf tea in the evenings to help me relax and sleep well.

- A Cosy Atmosphere: I enjoy lighting candles and creating a relaxing environment for my night.

- Evening Reading: I enjoy sitting down in a cosy blanket with a good book. At the minute I am loving fantasy novels. This is a great screen free way to relax.

- Skincare and Self Care: British women often focus on simple skincare in the evening. For me this includes cleansing and moisturizing.

- Slowing Down: I enjoy some relaxing music and journalling about my day.

A good evening routine can improve sleep, energy and mood. Creating comforting evenings can really change your days.

So perhaps for Autumn you would like to try adding one British habit to your own evening? A cup of tea, five minutes of journalling or reading before bed might become your new favourite ritual.

If you would like to discuss more about self care and stress relief or perhaps British habits, I am happy to chat!
