What Inspired Me to Begin Teaching

Weekly Topic: What inspired me to begin teaching

Refilwe M

My journey into teaching was inspired by the simple yet powerful moments of helping others learn. As a student, I often found myself supporting classmates who struggled, and I discovered how rewarding it was to see someone’s understanding grow through patience and clear explanation.

That early experience deepened when I volunteered at schools. Working with young learners, I witnessed how education goes beyond academicsit builds confidence, curiosity, and a sense of possibility. Watching students progress reminded me that teaching is about nurturing both knowledge and personal growth.

I chose this path because I believe education is one of the most impactful ways to serve others. Each learner has unique strengths, and guiding them toward their potential is both an honor and a responsibility.

Teaching continues to inspire me daily. It is not just about transferring knowledge, but about making a meaningful difference in people’s lives, one lesson at a time.
