Why are you studying English?

Jack Chan

We often feel anxiety when we are learning something new. When you are a beginner at a new language, a new sport, a new skill - it may all seem very overwhelming. One thing that can help is to think about the reason why you have started this journey. In the case of your English language learning, let’s ask “Why am I studying English?”

Are you simply wanting to learn a few words and phrases for an upcoming trip to an English speaking country? Are you planning to be a professional translator and interpreter? Do you have a penpal who is an English speaker? All of the above require different amounts of language - which means different amounts of time and energy.

So when you are feeling anxious about studying, always return to your future English using self - and remember what you wish to achieve when it comes to language acquisition.
