Today’s “sounds-like-a-native” Japanese expression is:
「～nakya」!
This is actually a casual version of:
「～nakereba narimasen」(“must / have to”) …the toung twister one.
which many learners study in beginner Japanese.
「～naito ikemasen」 has the same meaning, so you’ll also hear people say:
「～naito」
Both 「～nakya」 and 「～naito」 mean basically the same thing,
but 「～nakya」 sounds more casual and conversational.
Actually, 「～nakya」 secretly has 「dame」 hidden at the end.
So:
「ika nakya」 originally comes from something like:
「ika nakya(dame)」 = “I have to go.”
You’ll also hear expressions like:
・yara nakya (“have to do it”)
yan nakya (more casual version of “yara nakya”)
・kaera nakya → kaen nakya
・ne nakya (“have to go to sleep”) * “nen nakya”is wrong
These are super common in anime, songs, dramas, and everyday conversation.
Also, Japanese people often say:
「mou – nakya (もう～なきゃ)」
