Moving to Taiwan with ZERO Chinese?! How I Became a Japanese Teacher [Part 1]

Megu3

Hello everyone! I'm Meg, currently living in Taiwan.

From now on, I’ll be sharing some of my unique (and slightly mysterious!) experiences and daily life here in Taiwan.

First off, let me ask you a question... "Why do you think I came to Taiwan in the first place?"

Was it for marriage? ...Nope. Was it for studying abroad? ...Not quite.

Believe it or not, the answer is: "Because someone offered me a job!"

And that was the beginning of my life in Taiwan and my career as a Japanese language teacher.

My very first job was teaching at a kindergarten here. It was a unique place where they taught both Japanese and English during different times of the day.

Now, here is another question for you. "Do you think I could speak Chinese when I first arrived in Taiwan?"

I’m sure you’ve already guessed the answer (haha). Yes, I came here with absolutely zero Chinese skills!

I couldn't speak the language, and I didn't know anyone... So, how on earth did I end up moving to Taiwan and teaching Japanese under those circumstances?

I will share the secret in my next column, so stay tuned!

☕️ A Little Note from Meg "I want to hear more behind-the-scenes stories about living in Taiwan!" "How was it adjusting to life abroad with zero Chinese?" If you're curious about any of this, please join me for a casual chat in my Free Talk lesson!
