Hello everyone!
Recently, I took a day off for my wife’s birthday. We went to the ocean and had a relaxing lunch together. It was simple, quiet, and really nice.
We didn’t do anything too busy or complicated. We just enjoyed the ocean view, ate good food (I had sea urchin cream pasta!), and had time to talk without rushing.

That kind of break is important.
Of course, work, studying, family life, and daily responsibilities are all important too. But sometimes, we need to stop for a while and give our minds and bodies a chance to rest.
After that day off, I felt refreshed. I also remembered something very simple…
We can’t keep going forever without taking breaks.
Longer breaks help us reset
Taking time off from work or school can be very helpful.
A longer break gives us time to step away from our normal schedule. We can sleep a little more, spend time with family, go somewhere relaxing, or do something just for fun.
When we are busy every day, we sometimes forget to notice how tired we are.
A longer break can help us reset. It can also help us see things more clearly.
Sometimes, when I take a break from work, I return with better ideas, more patience, and a calmer feeling.
That is not laziness.
That is taking care of yourself.
Short breaks are important too
But breaks do not always need to be big. Short breaks during the day are just as important.
For example, you can…
- stand up and stretch
- drink some water
- look outside for a few minutes
- take a short walk
- close your eyes and breathe
- make tea or coffee
- step away from your screen
Even five minutes can help.
If you are studying English, short breaks can make your study time more effective.
Your brain needs time to rest and organize information. If you study for a long time without stopping, you may feel tired, frustrated, or unfocused.
A short break can help you come back with more energy.
Breaks can help productivity
Many people think productivity means working all the time.
I don’t think that’s true.
Productivity means using your energy well. If you are too tired, it’s hard to do good work. It’s hard to study well. It’s hard to listen carefully. It’s hard to be patient with yourself and others.
Taking breaks can actually help you do better.
You may study for less time, but with more focus. You may work fewer hours, but with clearer thinking. You may speak English for a shorter time, but with more confidence.
Quality matters too.
Taking breaks without guilt
Sometimes people feel guilty when they take a break.
They think, “I should be working.” Or, “I should be studying.” Or, “I’m wasting time.”
I understand that feeling. But rest is not a waste of time.
Rest is part of learning. Rest is part of working. Rest is part of staying healthy.
Of course, we still need effort and discipline. But if we never rest, we may lose motivation and energy.
A good break helps us continue.
A simple break plan
If you are studying at home, try this simple plan…
- Study for 20 or 25 minutes.
- Take a 5-minute break.
- Study again.
- After two or three study sessions, take a longer break.
During your break, try not to just scroll on your phone. Move your body. Drink water. Rest your eyes. Breathe slowly.
Give your brain a real break.
My question for you
How do you like to take breaks?
Do you go for a walk?
Drink coffee?
Listen to music?
Spend time with family?
Go somewhere near the ocean or mountains?
For me, taking a day off with my wife and having lunch by the ocean was a good reminder. Big breaks are important. Small breaks are important too.
We all need time to rest, reset, and return with new energy.
Thanks for reading!
