Why Taking a Break Is Not Lazy, It's Necessary!

Weekly Topic: The importance of taking breaks

Mae Lin

Did you know that your brain actually works better after a short break? I used to think resting was a waste of time. I felt guilty every time I stopped working, even for five minutes. But I was wrong.

In my younger years, I worked for hours without stopping. By the afternoon, I could not think clearly, and I made small mistakes. Then I tried something new. I took a short walk outside, just ten minutes, no phone. When I came back, my mind felt clear again. That small break changed my whole day.

Breaks are not only for people with office jobs. If you work at home, take care of your family, or study every day, you need rest too. Your brain and body need time to recharge, just like a phone battery.

Here are some simple ways to take a break: stretch for five minutes, make a cup of coffee and drink it slowly, step outside for fresh air, or close your eyes and breathe deeply ten times.

You do not need a vacation to feel refreshed. You just need a few honest minutes for yourself.

So here's my question for you:  what will you do for your next break?  Try it today, then tell me how it felt.
