Ciao! Welcome to another coffee break with me. If you're new here, I'm an Italian teacher with 15 years of experience. Today I'm serving up three more Italian words that confuse everyone — because learning Italian should be as relaxing as a good cup of coffee.
1. “Sapere” vs “Conoscere”
Sapere = to know facts or how to do something.
Conoscere = to know a person, a place, or be familiar with something.
Non so dov'è la stazione. — I don't know where the station is.
Conosco un ristorante fantastico qui. — I know a fantastic restaurant here.
2. “Buono” vs “Bene”
Buono = good (adjective). It describes a noun (food, a book, a person).
Bene = well (adverb). It describes a verb (how you do something).
Questo caffè è molto buono. — This coffee is very good.
Parli bene l'italiano. — You speak Italian well.
3. “Guardare” vs “Vedere”
Vedere = to see. It’s passive; you do it with your eyes without necessarily wanting to.
Guardare = to watch or look at. It’s active; you do it with intention and attention.
Vedi quel negozio? — Do you see that shop?
Guardo un film italiano. — I am watching an Italian movie.
