Happy Godzilla Day!

Michael H

November 3rd marks the 72nd anniversary of the Japanese theatrical release of GODZILLA (1954). Every year Godzilla Day is celebrated by fans around the world. And this year is especially exciting because it coincides with the release of Takashi Yamazaki's long-awaited sequel GODZILLA MINUS ZERO, which is the first Japanese movie ever to be filmed for IMAX screens. I can't wait to see it in IMAX in the US!
My love of all things Japanese started as a kid in the 80s watching English-dubbed Godzilla movies on television. In 2025, when I lived in Osaka, I visited the Godzilla Stores in Umeda and Shinsaibashi often, buying things I probably didn't need. I have enjoyed watching all sorts of Japanese movies and television shows but Godzilla will always hold a special place in my heart. They are among Japan's greatest contributions to world cinema. Not all of them are great, in fact some of them are downright goofy. But they are endlessly entertaining.
So I'd like to wish you all a Happy Godzilla Day!
