Become easily understood by native English speakers!

Detalles de la lección

This lesson will begin with brief conversation so that I can hear your speaking and determine which sound to focus on that class. Let's say we decide to work on the /oʊ/ sound ("go", "so"), which is frequently cut short by non-native English speakers. The lesson would be structured as follows:
  1. Learn how to pronounce the /oʊ/ sound properly (where to place the lips, tongue, etc.)
  2. Practice saying words with the /oʊ/ sound
  3. Differentiate between words with similar sounds (ex. so - saw)
  4. Read sentences aloud with the /oʊ/ sound
  5. Read a paragraph aloud with the /oʊ/ sound
  6. Have a casual conversation to apply what was learned
Some examples of other sounds that we might work on are:
  • The voiced th-sound (ð), as in "the" and "they"
  • The unvoiced th-sound (θ), as in "three" and "think"
  • The l-sound, as in "like" and "lemon"
The lessons will be customized to your needs, and I welcome requests if there is a particular sound you would like to work on. Typically, we will have time for one sound per 25-minute class.

My goal in teaching pronunciation is not to eliminate students' accents completely (an unrealistic and unnecessary goal), but to help students to speak in such a way that they can be easily understood by native English speakers.
