The story about the place called  “Sayaw”

The word “Sayaw” refers to dance in English. Sayaw is the name of a place on the southwestern coast of Cebu, the Philippines. The people speak Cebuano, English, Tagalog, and a little Spanish. As many people know that the Philippines has multiple dialects, the Cebuano people speak Spanish due to Spaniards colonization in 1565. They have influenced our language, literature, laws, and religion.

On the other hand , the place “Sayaw” derived its name from the bird called “Sayaw” Birds or Swiftlets. They have narrow wings for fast flight, a wide gape, and a small reduced beak surrounded by bristles for catching insects during flight. They can navigate in total darkness through the ravines and shafts of caves, where they roostat night and breed.

The nests of some species are built entirely from solidified threads of their saliva, which are edible and collected for human consumption as the famous Chinese delicacy, the bird's nest soup.

These birds can be found on Sayaw Beach, a famous beach in Cebu. Our ancestors passed down these stories from our grandparents and parents to us. There is a cave next to the beach where swiftlets can be observed.
