Learn how to make typical British dishes and at the same time improve your vocabulary of ingredients and cooking terms. There will be a new dish every month so keep coming back to learn about and try new dishes.
Detalles de la lección
The class is aimed at beginners, interemdiate or even advanced students who want to be able to understand British food. This is helpful for people aiming to improve their English speaking skills, whilst at the same time having the confidence to speak to friends or work colleagues about what typical British dishes are. This is a fun class that will also let you try making the dishes yourself. The class proceeds in 6 steps.
1. The teacher supplies the student with a short video of how to make the dish, before the lesson. It should take about 5 minutes to watch. The student needs to watch the video with English subtitles and take brief notes to discuss in the class
2. The teacher starts by giving a short history of the dish and asking the student if they have any questions about the video (vocabularly they don't understand, ingredients or cooking methods they don't know, pronunciation or grammar)
3. The student then practices reading aloud a list of ingredients and cooking methods supplied by the teacher, after which the teacher corrects any pronunciation issues
4. This is followed by a general discussion on the recipe, with either the student or the teacher bringing in related issues as appropriate.
5. Wrap up - new vocabulary learned or pronunciation issues identified
6. Homework - the teacher will provide you with the recipe at the end of the lesson. Try making this dish at home and enjoy the real taste of British food
The benefits of this class are as follows:
1. It is a structured approach where the student can think about the topic before the lesson and come prepared
2. The student can learn new vocabulary and have their pronunciation or grammar corrected
3. The student can learn about British food and even try the dishes for themselves
4. Keep checking back for new dish lessons released once a month. There will be recipes for starters, main courses and the famous British desserts.
My teaching style is calm, friendly and non-judgemental but I am prepared to challenge a student to go further, particularly if the topic requires the student to have an opinion
