Lesson Introduction: Phrasal Verbs for Beginners

Welcome to today’s English lesson! Have you ever heard phrases like “wake up”, “turn on”, or “give up”? These are called phrasal verbs, and they are an important part of natural English.

A phrasal verb is a verb + preposition (or adverb) that together create a new meaning. For example:

  • Wake up → Stop sleeping (I wake up at 7 AM.)

  • Turn on → Start a device (Can you turn on the TV?)

  • Give up → Stop trying (Don’t give up on your dreams!)

In this lesson, we will:
✅ Learn what phrasal verbs are and how they work.
✅ Study some common phrasal verbs used in daily life.
✅ Practice using them in sentences and conversations.

Phrasal verbs can be tricky at first, but learning them will help you sound more natural and confident in English. Let’s get started!

Phrasal verbs comprise a verb + preposition (or adverb), and their meaning often differs from the original verb.

  • Example:

    • Look up → Search for information (I looked up the word in a dictionary.)

    • Give up → Stop trying (He gave up smoking last year.)
