Engage: In the beginning, I will explain to the student what must be done. I’ll send the student a fill-in-the-blank activity and the vocabulary list via either email or Skype. Before we begin the activity, the student and I will review the vocabulary list. The student can answer any questions that he or she may have.

Once completed, the student will fill in the blanks with introductory information and read the sentences aloud. For example, a student named Eri would begin reading her sentences as follows: “Hello! My name is Eri, and I am 23 years old. My favorite food is fried rice, and I enjoy going to karaoke with friends. Nice to meet you!” She will read the sentences. Once the student has completed the sentences, feedback will be given.

Study: The student will write what he or she ate for breakfast, for lunch, and for dinner. The correct tense should be used. I’ll be sure to give feedback and answer any questions the student may have.

Activate: The student will then share which food he or she dislikes. I’ll give a demonstration by stating: “I dislike okra and squash.” Any food that is unfamiliar to the student will be shown to the student. This part of the lesson will be in conversation style.
