Problem areas for Japanese students

Conditions, circumstances, and situations

Description

There are many situations or conditions which are described differently in Japanese and English. Most often, confusion occurs when the grammatical patterns of one language are transferred to the other.

For example -

In English we say, 'I was born in 1965.' Japanese students want to say, 'I borned in 1965.' This comes from, '私は1965年に生まれました。’

This confusion occurs frequently in matters involving birth, death, marriage, employment circumstances, etc.
