Do you feel stuck playing the same scales over and over? Do your jazz solos sound mechanical or disconnected from the rhythm?
In this class, we will break down the wall of improvisation using a clear, step-by-step methodology that will take you from a single note to flowing, professional jazz lines. You don’t need to memorize complex modal theories; you just need to learn how to build a musical story on the piano.
We will focus on a highly effective 4-stage process to train your ears, your rhythm, and your fingers:
 
What You Will Learn:
  1. Stage 1: The Power of One Note (Motivic Improvisation)
    We start at the very beginning. You will learn to create a compelling jazz solo using only one single note. We will focus entirely on space, expression, and developing short musical ideas (motifs) that catch the listener's ear.
  2. Stage 2: Mastering Rhythmic Patterns
    Jazz is all about timing. We will take our melodic ideas and apply specific jazz rhythmic patterns. You will learn how to use 3 specific short rhytmic patterns in your solos tha porfessional jazz musician use all the time. Then you will master the most important rhythmic unit in jazz improvisation: the swing eight note
  3. Stage 3: The 7th Chord + The 9th Tension
    We will expand your vocabulary by targeting the core DNA of jazz harmony. You will practice soloing using the root, 3rd, 5th, and 7th chord tones, and then we will add the 9th tension to immediately give your lines that elegant, modern jazz color.
  4. Stage 4: Crafting Endless Eighth-Note Runs
    Finally, we will connect everything into fluid motion. You will learn the secrets to creating smooth eighth-note lines (8 eighth notes per measure), allowing you to connect one chord to the next seamlessly, just like the jazz masters.
