Description

We’ll start by making completely unexpected scribbles and then look closely at the shapes and lines to discover what might be hiding inside it. From there, we’ll transform it into a character by adding details, colours, expressions and a personality.

The goal isn't to draw a “perfect” character, but to learn how an unexpected mark can become the starting point for an idea.

After the lesson: Draw your character doing something unexpected. Where are they? What are they doing? What might happen next?

Materials: Paper, pencil and coloured pencils, crayons or markers.
