      1. Grades in college preparation courses

      5. Essays (They must “hear” the student’s voice!)
      6. Interest in that particular college if requested
      7. Counselor recommendation
      8. Teacher recommendations
      9. Activities
    3. Soft skills are critical! 
      1. Self-advocacy is the most important
      2. Work ethic
      3. Judgment
      4. Resilience
      5. Confidence
      6. Attitude
      7. Being able to take criticism
      8. Adaptability
