English Phonics for Kids

Phonics is an important part of an English education because it helps students spell, read, and pronounce words correctly. These lessons make learning English phonics easy, fun, and exciting!

I use the 'Letters and Sounds' phonics system to teach children how to read and write words in English. This system is one of the most popular methods in the United Kingdom and teaches sounds in structured sets to quickly build up their phonics knowledge. 

Each lesson is designed to be fun and build confidence. I use puppets, real-life objects, storybooks, games and songs to get children motivated and make sure that learning phonics is never boring!

Each lesson uses the following structure:

-Introduction: We start each lesson by saying hello and with simple conversation to increase your child's speaking confidence and build a strong student/teacher partnership.

-Revision: I revise all known sounds with students before starting the main lesson to help them remember what they've already learned. 

-New sounds: We learn one or two new sounds per lesson depending on the student's level. We will work on pronouncing the sounds correctly and recognising how they are written in English. 

-Reading work: We will work on reading new and previously-learned sounds in whole words. When the student is ready, we will move on to reading full sentences. 

-Writing work: We will work on spelling whole words using phonics sounds and spelling rules. When students have mastered this skill, we will start writing full sentences. I will also teach punctuation rules. 

-'Tricky' words: Some words in English can't be read or written using phonics rules. I will teach these difficult words in every lesson so that your child begins to read and write fluently. 

-Homework: I will set a short piece of homework at the end of each session. Tasks include worksheets, reading activities, and watching videos to work on the skills learned in class. We will review the homework in the next lesson. 

These lessons are ideal for beginners or students who have already done some phonics work already. If your child has already learned some phonics, please let me know so that I can choose the correct level. 

It's impossible to learn phonics in a single lesson, so I recommend booking regular sessions.
