【What You Can Expect from This Lesson】

Would you like to learn Japanese through the delicious-looking foods featured in Studio Ghibli films?
 
In this lesson, we will explore illustrations from Spirited Away and other Ghibli films while practicing reading aloud, learning new vocabulary, and having conversations in Japanese.
 
Rather than simply reading the book, we will use the illustrations and stories as a starting point for talking about your favorite foods, memorable meals, and Japanese food culture. This will help you practice using what you have learned in real conversations.
 
All kanji in the book have furigana (hiragana readings above the kanji), so you can enjoy reading even if you are not yet comfortable with kanji.
 
【Who Is This Lesson For?】
This lesson is recommended for beginner to lower-intermediate Japanese learners.
 
・Those who can read hiragana and katakana to some extent
・Those who want to learn kanji readings and expand their vocabulary
・Those who want to practice Japanese pronunciation through reading aloud
・Those who want to practice speaking Japanese using the words and expressions they have learned
・Those who enjoy Studio Ghibli films and Japanese food culture
 
I will adjust the reading passages and conversation questions to suit your Japanese level.



【Lesson Plan (25 Minutes)】
 
1. Warm-up (3 minutes)
 
We will look at the illustrations and briefly talk about your favorite foods or dishes you have tried before.
 
2. Reading Aloud (7 minutes)
 
We will read selected passages together while looking at the illustrations. We will also practice pronunciation and kanji readings and check the meanings of unfamiliar words.
 
3. Vocabulary and Expressions (5 minutes)
 
We will choose a few words or expressions from the text, learn their meanings, and practice using them in simple example sentences.
 
4. Conversation About Food (10 minutes)
 
We will use the foods featured in the book as a starting point for conversation in Japanese.
 
Here are some example questions:
 
・Would you like to try this food?
・What do you think it tastes like?
・What is your favorite Japanese dish?
・What dishes did you often eat when you were a child?
 
You will have opportunities to use the vocabulary and expressions you have learned while talking about your own experiences in Japanese.
 
The goal is to develop both your reading and speaking skills in a relaxed and enjoyable way.
