For intermediate–advanced learners applying to universities abroad who want a faster, more affordable alternative to TOEFL/IELTS. The DET is now accepted by thousands of institutions, including all eight Ivy League schools, but its adaptive, fast-switching format needs its own kind of prep — general fluency alone isn't enough.
Best for: Learners applying abroad who want to strengthen their DET score or get comfortable with its unconventional format.
Topics: DET format walkthrough and adaptive scoring; "Complete the Words" and "Read in Daily Life" reading tasks; rapid spoken/written responses under a timer; listen-and-type tasks; interview-style video responses.
Skills: fast reading comprehension, spontaneous spoken fluency, concise short-form writing, and comfort with the test's unconventional, fast-switching tasks.
How I teach: Timed drills using official-style practice tasks, with real-time feedback on fluency, clarity, and pacing — since DET rewards natural communication over rehearsed answers.
