making confusing phrasal verbs super easy!
Detalles de la lección
In this lesson, which is suitable for pre-intermediate and intermediate learners who are aiming to sound natural and understand native speakers, we use guided discovery to deduce what phrasal verbs are, their components, and their types (separable, non-separable). I show the learner a simple verb like "give" and then add the preposition "up". I ask if the meaning changes with the new word, and ask what kind of word it is "preposition". We look at examples in sentences and find the phrasal verb together, the learner is guided to conduct visible learning, they guess what the phrasal verb means from the context. Then we move to more examples of non-spearable phrasal verbs. I ask the learner to repeat the same process and ask if them to notice that the components are separated by words. I ask what the role of the words is in the sentence "object". I then ask the learner to think of ways to differentiate between separarable and non-separable phrasal verbs. I introduce using "it" in the middle to test this. We establish that phrasal verbs have different meanings from original verbs, what components they are made of, and the two different types of phrasal verbs. We now move to the exercise part where the learner matches 10 different phrasal verbs to the appropriate sentence half, I use logic to explain what new phrasal verbs mean in this process as well as to make them memorable. The next step is for the learner to check if each one is separable or non-separable. I end the lesson by asking the learner to use 3 phrasal verbs in sentences about their life and send them homework for them to use the target language in yet
