레슨 상세 내용

Advanced English Discussion & Communication

For advanced adult learners who want to speak more precisely, naturally, and confidently.

Course Level

Target: Advanced adult learners

Recommended level: TOEIC 800+, EIKEN Pre-1, CEFR B2 or above

Students should already be comfortable holding conversations in English and will be expected to speak at length, explain opinions, respond to follow-up questions, evaluate alternatives, and work through challenging tasks in English.

This course is not suitable for beginner or lower-intermediate learners.

What You Will Learn

This course focuses not only on conversation, but also on developing the language and communication skills needed for more advanced discussions.

Depending on the lesson, we may work on:

  • advanced vocabulary and precise word choice
  • idioms and natural expressions
  • advanced grammar used in speaking
  • organizing longer and more complex answers
  • expressing disagreement diplomatically
  • clarifying intentions and reducing tension
  • setting boundaries and handling difficult conversations
  • responding spontaneously to unexpected questions
  • conversation techniques for discussion, debate, and negotiation

What Lessons May Include

  • in-depth discussion
  • debate
  • role-plays and difficult-conversation practice
  • collaborative problem solving
  • planning and proposal tasks
  • ranking and decision-making activities
  • comparing policies or social systems
  • creating rules, recommendations, or solutions
  • language analysis and controlled practice

Some lessons focus mainly on discussion, while others require you to solve a problem, make a decision, create a proposal, or respond to a realistic situation.

Lesson Materials

Lessons are generally worksheet-based and carefully structured, rather than completely improvised conversation.

A typical lesson may move through several stages, such as:

  • warm-up discussion
  • initial speaking or roleplay
  • language analysis
  • vocabulary, grammar, or expression work
  • controlled practice
  • extended discussion or task-based speaking

Some lessons may also include YouTube videos or other listening activities when they are useful for the topic.

Example Topics

  • creating a Hall of Fame for deserving people or inventions
  • designing neighborhood rules for a harmonious community
  • comparing immigration policies
  • discussing addiction and addictive behavior
  • evaluating technology and social change
  • handling difficult or passive-aggressive people
  • creating proposals for social or community problems

Topics are designed to give you a reason to use English at length, rather than simply answer a series of short questions.

Feedback & Homework

During the lesson, I can help you:

  • express ideas more precisely
  • correct unnatural wording
  • expand your vocabulary
  • organize longer answers
  • use more natural conversational expressions
  • improve your ability to respond spontaneously

Optional homework is available with every lesson. Homework may include vocabulary review, written responses, grammar practice, preparation for the next topic, or other activities connected to the lesson.
