Reading a short news article

Description

In this lesson, the student will read a short news article, chosen by the teacher based on the student's interests.

- The lesson will begin with a short, casual conversation related to the subject of the article we are about to read.

- Next, the student will be shown a list of useful vocabulary for understanding the article. The student will be asked to rate their understanding of each word, from "I have never seen this word" to "I use this word". We will only go over words that they student indicates that they do not know. This will help us to make the best use of the lesson time.

-After going over the vocabulary the student will be asked to read the article aloud with support given by the teacher. The teacher will help with pronunciation and explain any additional unknown words. The article may also be read in turns by both the student and the teacher.

- The article will be followed by some comprehension questions to check the student's understanding of the article. If neccessary, the teacher will provide additional support (example: hints) in answering the questions.

- The lesson will end with a conversation about the article. For example, what the student found interesting or surprising, what they learned from it, or any similar experiences they may have had.
