🔹 Lesson Structure

1. Warm-Up

  • Goal: Activate prior knowledge and ease into the topic

  • Activity:

    • Teacher asks: “Have you read or watched any news this week?”

    • Quick chat: “What kind of news do you like (technology, health, world events, entertainment)?”

    • Introduce today’s article title.


2. News Reading

  • Goal: Practice reading out loud and understanding the text

  • Activity Options:

    • Option A (Guided Reading):

      • Teacher and student take turns reading aloud (1 paragraph each)

    • Option B (Independent Reading):

      • Student reads silently for a few minutes, then summarizes a section aloud

  • Teacher helps with pronunciation, difficult vocabulary, and expressions


3. Vocabulary Focus

  • Goal: Clarify and practice 5–7 key words or phrases

  • Activity:

    • Teacher explains new or useful words from the article

    • Student makes example sentences

    • Optional: Match words to meanings, fill-in-the-blanks, or quick quiz


4. Discussion & Speaking Practice

  • Goal: Improve fluency and opinion-sharing

  • Activity:

    • Teacher asks open-ended questions such as:

      • What was the most surprising part of the story?

      • Do you agree with what happened?

      • How would this story be different in your country?

    • Encourage the student to explain, describe, and defend their opinions


5. Comprehension Questions 

  • Goal: Test understanding and listening/reading retention

  • Activity:

    • Teacher asks 5–7 questions about the article:

      • Factual: "Who was involved?"

      • Inference: "Why do you think they did that?"

      • Vocabulary: "What does [X] mean in the story?"


6. Wrap-Up & Feedback 

  • Goal: Reinforce learning and build confidence

  • Activity:

    • Review key points of the article

    • Highlight a few good moments from the student's answers

    • Suggest an optional follow-up (e.g., look up more on this topic, write a short summary)


🔄 Optional Homework

  • Write a short opinion paragraph about the article

  • Find a related news story and bring it to the next lesson

  • Review vocabulary using flashcards or quiz app
