Stage Aim 3:
The teacher asks the student whether he or she is familiar with the rules on how to pronounce the letter combination gh in English. The teacher explains the rules for how to pronounce gh:
1)At the beginning of a word: ghost, ghetto, ghee
2)At the end of a word in certain words:
In the words laugh, rough, tough, enough, trough, cough
or
In the words dough, though, thorough, furlough
3)Combined with the letter [i]:
In the middle of a syllable or a word: alright, light, tight, sight, right, might, knight, night, bright, blight, plight
or
at the end of a word: high and thigh

These rules may seem random or arbitrary, but to be fluent in English, you must have these rules memorized.

Stage Aim 6:
The teacher gives the student twenty sentences to read out loud in the PowerPoint presentation. The teacher corrects the student’s pronunciation, if necessary, as the student reads the text.
Stage Aim 7:
The teacher gives the student several words with gh in them to use in a role play. The role play will take place at a doctor’s office. In the role pay, the student will be a doctor and the teacher will be the doctor’s patient. The student will be given ten words with gh in them to use in the role play.
Stage Aim 8:
