Description

*This lesson is recommended for intermediate level students and above.

Let's watch an episode or half of an episode in class starting with episode 1 of season 1. How much of an episode that is watched per lesson depends on the level of the student. The episodes will be shown at natural airing speed with English subtitles. Each episode is about 25 minutes long. After watching, we can talk about what happened in each episode. I will have comprehension questions for each episode. Each episode plays off of the previous one, so it's important that we watch each episode in chronological order! The student can ask about any idioms, phrases, or vocabulary that was used in the episode that is unclear to them. The student can also learn about American history and culture through American references used throughout the show.

Full House is an American sitcom created by Jeff Franklin for ABC. It originally aired from 1987 to 1995. While never a critical favorite, the series was consistently in the Nielsen Top 30 (from 1988 onward) and continues to gain even more popularity in syndicated reruns, and is also aired internationally. A sequel series, Fuller House, premiered on Netflix in 2016, and concluded in 2020.

Plot
After the death of his wife Pam, sports anchor Danny Tanner (Bob Saget) recruits his brother-in-law Jesse (John Stamos), a rocker and party boy, and his best friend since childhood, Joey (Dave Coulier), who is a dork and stand-up comedian, to help raise his three daughters DJ (Candace Cameron), Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and Michelle (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen). Over time, the three men, as well as the girls, bond and become closer to each other.

In season two, Danny is reassigned from his duties as sports anchor by his television station to become co-host of a new local breakfast TV show, Wake Up, San Francisco, and teams up with beautiful Rebecca Donaldson. Jesse and Rebecca "Becky" eventually fall in love and get married during season four. In season five, Becky gives birth to twins, Nicholas "Nicky" and Alexander "Alex".

Fun Facts
I grew up watching this show. Also, since I live in the San Francisco area I have seen the house where this show was filmed. I have met Jodie Sweetin (Stephanie) in person three times. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are the same age as me. In fact, they are exactly two months older than me.
