The fact that each person is unique and has different interests, learning styles and learning pace is a challenge as well as a joy for me. Therefore my style is highly personalized according to those aspects of the student.
I offer many types of lessons (please check the lesson list page) and includes:
In traditional course-based lessons I encourage creativity with improvisation, music theory is always integrated within lessons to reinforce understanding, lessons include fun and engaging activities, we can also reserve some time to stray from the piano course to play any song you wish. All of my lessons include feedback, assignments and clear practice points.
In America, I started playing the keyboard at age 8 with Christmas songs from my church, where I became the church pianist at 12 years old. Since that time, I have been composing music for church choir and other types of music which have been performed and recorded professionally. Sometimes I create original music for piano students, too.
As a student, I participated in a wide variety of piano competitions and recitals. At age 17, I had the privilege of performing a piano solo in Carnegie Hall (the small hall) in New York City.
Beyond the piano, you'll often find me reflecting on the wonderful adventures I shared with my dog, practicing piano daily, or dedicating time to studying Japanese. I also enjoy Japanese home cooking and attempting to make American meals using local ingredients. In America riding bicycles is not as prevalent as it is in Japan so I am happy to ride my bike everyday even in the rain. I am particularly fascinated by electronic assisted bicycles. I am also interested in retro gaming and have a dedicated game room with original hardware including a tube television and would like to discuss this and other things in our conversation sometime.
