Hi! My name is Andrés Barros, but feel free to call me Andy!
I'm an English and Spanish teacher from Quito, Ecuador. Ever heard of it? It's located in South America. Are the Galapagos Islands familiar to you? Well, they're part of Ecuador!

¡Hola! ¡Mi nombre es Andrés Barros, pero puedes llamarme Andy!
Soy un profesor de inglés y español de Quito, Ecuador. ¿Has oído hablar de mi país? Se encuentra en Suramérica. ¿Te suenan las Islas Galápagos? Bueno,  ¡son parte del Ecuador!

I'm a very patient, friendly, and easy-going person. When I teach, I like to create a space where my students feel safe to make mistakes. It's incredibly important to make mistakes! It's the only way to learn anything, so don't be embarrassed to make them, be proud and happy to!
Soy una persona muy paciente, amistosa y me tomo las cosas con calma. Cuando doy clases, me gusta crear un espacio donde mis estudiantes sientan  que pueden cometer errores. ¡Cometer errores es de suma importancia! Es la única manera de aprender, así que no te sientas mal de cometerlos; ¡siéntete orgulloso y feliz de cometerlos!

In my classes, I like to strike the right balance among LANGUAGE INPUT (listening and reading resources), TARGETED grammar study (although grammar can be a little boring in excess, it is necessary and very helpful in the right dose), and PRACTICE (speaking or writing, always depending on THE STUDENTS' OBJECTIVES).
En mis clases, me gusta encontrar el equilibrio correcto entre INPUT LINGÜÍSTICO (ejercicios de escucha y lectura), estudio de gramática FOCALIZADO (aunque la gramática puede ser un poco aburrida en exceso, es necesaria y útil en la dosis correcta), y PRÁCTICA (hablar o escribir, siempre de acuerdo a LOS OBJETIVOS DEL ESTUDIANTE).

Personally, I love languages. I believe they have the power to make you a kinder, more empathetic, open-minded, and compassionate person. Languages are also great for your brain! So I also make it a priority to study languages myself, and can speak conversational Mandarin and Japanese. I lived in China for 4 years, and in Japan for 1 month. If you are a student from said countries, I can support your learning in your mother tongue if you need it, but ideally, we'll minimize that and have you speaking in your target language in no time! I love to use culture and interesting topics like science, philosophy, economics, business, music, movies, art, and current news and events to practice language. Why bother to learn if you're not going to talk about meaningful things, right?
En lo personal, amo los idiomas. Creo que tienen el poder para volverte una persona más empática, de mente abierta y compasiva. ¡Los idiomas también son geniales para tu cerebro! Así que me aseguro de que estudiar idiomas por mi lado sea una prioridad, y puedo hablar mandarín y japonés a nivel conversacional. Si eres un estudiante de dichos países, puedo apoyar tu aprendizaje en tu lengua natal de ser necesario, pero idealmente, ¡lo minimizaremos y haremos que hables en tu idioma objetivo muy pronto!  Me encanta usar la cultura y temas interesantes como ciencia, filosofía, economía, negocios, música, arte, y noticias actuales para practicar idiomas. ¿De que sirve aprender si no vas a hablar de cosas interesantes, verdad?
