皆さんこんにちは! 私はクリスです。トロントに住んでいます。
私は日本語が大好きな英語の先生です。元々は2020年9月に日本に引っ超すつもりでした。’ALT’と言う英語の先生になるつもりでした。しかし、新型コロナウイルスの影響で、この仕事が延期しました。ですので、カナダから英語を教えたいと思います:)
Hello! My name is Chris (39歳), and I live in Toronto, Canada with my cat Pixel. Thank you for reading my profile! Since you're reading this profile, I can tell that your English skills have become very good, because of your hard work!
I'd like to continue by saying:
YAY! YOU'RE AWESOME!!
Learning English is a long journey, isn't it? But doesn't it feel like the last 1% of the journey is harder than the first 99%? I know this feeling, and I'm confident I can help you! :) I have designed various lessons to help you improve your diction, pronunciation, conversation and listening skills.
But, who is Chris? Let me tell you more about myself. :) I originally trained as an opera singer, and I sang opera for about 10 years. I studied voice diction and vocal pedagogy at University for 7 years.
At University, I studied pronunciation of French, Italian, German and Latin, as well as the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). I also worked closely with the head diction coach of the world famous Metropolitan Opera of New York, Nico Castel. Mr. Castel was funny and he loved to teach, but he was also a very scary and impatient man, when a student made a mistake in a lesson. When I teach, I try to be funny and patient and kind! No scariness! That's so important, if you ask me.
I stopped singing opera in 2017, because I didn't want to travel for work. I became a Web Marketer 社長! My company was very successful and grew to have five employees. For this job, I used formal business English. I often spoke with clients on the phone. I also did a 30-minute PowerPoint presentation to our clients each week. However, because of COVID-19, we had to close this company. But, let's not be sad about it, because now you and I can study English together! :D
I also teach young opera singers! I really like doing this! I am happy because I'm able to help singers improve, when I teach them 1-on-1. When I teach lessons to singers, we talk about the various aspects that a successful singer needs (diction, projection, physicality, breath control). Most of these are helpful for learning English too. Sometimes proper pronunuciation requires you to use your air a little bit differently than in Japanese. It's fun to study this stuff, don't you think?
I love Japan, and I love the Japanese language. I started studying Japanese in 2017.
あ、い、う、え、お。
か、き、く、け、こ。
Since then, I've studied every day. I now know 2000 kanji, and JLTP N4 level grammar. I've also been practicing my listening skills by watching ZIP every day. I really like 日本全国うまいもんジャーニー!
Because I'm studying Japanese, I understand how difficult it is for you to learn English. Learning Japanese is not easy for me! I sometimes get frustrated, and embarrassed. But I keep going! :) I hope you feel the same way about English. 頑張りましょう!!
I've been to Japan four times. Last year, I watched Yuzuru Hanyu at the NHK Trophy.
TEACHING STYLE
It's important that you learn quickly and efficently. These three points will help.
1) JoySometimes, you might foget how fun it is to learn English. Sometimes you don't realize how skilled you have become, because it happened gradually!
Sometimes we lose a feeling of joy, because we focus too hard on a goal or deadline (upcoming IELTS test or TOEIC exam), or we compare ourselves to others around us.
During your session with me, we will always practice beinglearning English with joy. This will help you learn better.
2) It's Okay to Make Mistakes
In your lessons with me, we need to be OK with mistakes. This is the best way to learn:
1. Notice our mistakes
2. Smile
3. Examine the mistake together.
I want you to feel safe in our lessons. If you bravely share your mistakes, then we can work more quickly together!
3) Detailed Follow-up Feedback
I prefer to offered detail feedback, including several English points, along with related important links to YouTube, news articles, website, and so forth. My students often say they love my feedback! I hope you will like it too. :)
So, let's learn together! :)
一緒に学びしょう!:)
