About Me
Hello! My name is Tori. I live with my husband and young son in Tokyo, Japan. I am passionate about playing the violin, scuba diving, reading, and cooking. Since becoming a mom, I’ve been embracing the adventure of adjusting to home life with my son. Before this, I worked as a quality assurance and information security engineer in the local tech industry.
Before moving to Japan, I earned my degree in Japanese and left my Computer Science Engineering program to take a role as an Application Engineer. While working full-time, I also tutored Japanese primary students in their coursework. Throughout my life, I’ve held various childcare roles, including private nanny, daycare worker, and neighborhood babysitter, starting when I was 13 years old.
Violin Lessons
I’ve been playing the violin for over 30 years and previously taught beginner lessons when I lived in the United States. I believe nurturing curiosity and musical skill can be done remotely, though advanced students often benefit from a live accompanist and participating in a local orchestra.
My initial lessons focus on posture, tuning, timing, scale work, finger positions, vibrato (when ready), song assistance, homework, and instrument care and best practices. Initial consultation will be a brief overview of the instrument, as well as a quick skill assesment if you have some prevous experience. If playing for the first time we will cover what type of music you'd love to learn, as well as how much time you can dedicate to practice. This helps me understand what pace we can move at, and how best to assign practice homework.
Pilates With Baby Lessons
I also worked as a personal trainer at an all-women’s gym, where I conducted fitness assessments, developed personalized workout plans, led guided workouts, and taught Pilates and abdominal classes. Since becoming a mother, I’ve experienced how isolating it can feel to be at home and how challenging it is to connect with my postpartum body. While I deeply appreciate all my body has been through and respect it with new purpose, I still want to feel confident in it.
I’ve also noticed how difficult it is to find a moment for myself, let alone fit in a workout. So, I thought—why not include my little one and make it fun for both of us? Teaching Pilates with Baby allows me to connect with and support other mothers who might feel the same way. It’s a wonderful opportunity to build strength not just for ourselves but also for our little ones, all while sharing quality time together. Plus, it’s a great way to stay active indoors during Tokyo’s rainy season and the intense summer heat.
During our initial consultation, we’ll discuss your fitness goals, any limitations or concerns you may have, and how best to incorporate your child based on their age and developmental milestones. While consistency is important, I completely understand that life with a child is unpredictable—having a foolproof sleep schedule is still just a daydream for me!
Whether you are new to fitness or have experience, whether you are six months postpartum or three (or more) years along, everyone is welcome. I’m looking forward to meeting you and finding joy and strength together through movement.
