Hi there!
My name is Monika. I have lived in New York  for 16 years and taught for 6. I got my CELTA teaching certificate there in 2008.

That`s where I started to tutor private students and to work in classroom settings. I`ve been teaching students from all around the world since then, including Japanese and Korean learners.

Building a good connection with my students and creating a relaxed environment has always come naturally to me. 

 
I am a learner myself! I have a wide range of interests and enjoy discovering new areas through my students` hobbies. Easy-going and cheerful, classes fly by with me. My hobbies are learning Spanish as my third language and Hungarian folk dancing. Keeping traditions and customs that our ancestors left to us is important to me. I also like cooking and definitely love eating:) Especially sweets. And because of this I have to jog:)

I sew and read good books when I have time. I love animals and the outdoors. Luckily I live next to a National Park so I have great access to nature and I wish I could set up my office in the middle of the forest:)

I am fascinated by different counties, cultures and most of all, their people. I would love to learn from you about your country!


Education and Experience
CELTA (certificate of English language teaching to adults) from Cambridge accredited Teaching House, New York, NY -2008

Experience working for Columbia University, NY for its Job Empowerment program for adult English as a Second Language learners. Conducted listening, conversation and mixed-skill classes. 2 years.

Experience with exam preparations: TOEFL, IELTS, teaching in classroom settings and face-to-face private lessons since 2008.

B.S. in Information Technology (architecture)

 

My teaching style

The classes are PERSONALIZED, CENTERED AROUND YOU and I always ENCOURAGE YOU TO SPEAK. I use a lot of UP-TO-DATE topics currently in the news, including articles, videos and useful vocabulary. You will learn the most real life, native-like language in our classes. 

We will always MAXIMIZE YOUR SPEAKING TIME no matter what level.

I type important grammar and vocabulary in the Skype instant message box so you will have a record of class content. I will also send you an mp3 file, a recording of our class. It`s great to listen to it in your own time, review vocabulary, grammar points, example sentences and pronunciation.

I always create a fun and pleasant environment where you can work towards your goals.

I feel that I can effectively help you because I have been in your shoes (in the same situation; learning English) and I had many of the questions you might have about grammar and so on. I have worked out the answers to many of those questions and I would love to share them with you.
