KOH. Perfil del(de la) tutor/a

Hello, I’m KOH.

I’ve been riding motorcycles and driving cars for 33 years. Over that time I’ve traveled mountain passes and coastal roads all across Japan, collecting scenery, local food, and chance encounters along the way. Some days I ride long distances; other days I just cruise around my neighborhood. I love cars just as much — driving has simply become part of who I am.

Travel matters to me just as much. A tiny local diner in a town I stopped in on a tour, a roadside station where I waited out the rain, a breathtaking view I stumbled upon by accident — Japan is still full of wonderful places that never make it into guidebooks. These are the stories I’d love to share with you in our lessons.

After more than 30 years at a single company, I’ve started a new chapter as a Japanese teacher. Throughout my career I worked in Japanese every day — internal presentations, negotiations with outside partners, and business writing — and I also spent two years posted in China. That experience is the foundation of my approach: listening carefully and attentively to what the other person has to say.

My signature lesson is “Japanese Free Talk About Your Passions: Cars, Motorcycles & Travel.” Lessons are conducted entirely in Japanese (the direct method). Thinking in Japanese and answering in Japanese, without relying on your native language — I believe this is the shortest path through the intermediate plateau. I’ll correct mistakes on the spot with natural phrasing, turning what you want to say into Japanese you can say.

Taiwan holds a special place in my heart. I once studied abroad at Tamkang University, and learners from Taiwan are especially welcome.

After every lesson, I send written feedback summarizing what we talked about, more natural ways to express your ideas, and new vocabulary — so our conversation doesn’t just end when the lesson does. I’d love to hear about your own car or bike, and the places in Japan you dream of visiting. In Japanese, of course.
