My name is Charl. I’m from Cape Town, South Africa.
Second language acquisition is a field which I'm immensely passionate about, and I believe I can work alongside you to achieve whatever language goals you might have.
I have over 8 years of teaching experience. I gained this experience working in China and Taiwan as a tutor and teacher trainer. I was fortunate enough to work alongside some amazing tutors from countries like China, the US, Australia and the UK.
Courses:
I teach a variety of courses such as IELTS, TOEFL, General Speaking, Survival English, Academic English and Interview English.
Experience:
I have a degree in therapeutic recreation from the North-West University, a TEFL Certificate and I secured a Band 9 in IELTS Speaking. While in China, I managed to receive multiple teacher of the year awards which I'm extremely grateful for.
My Teaching Style:
My teaching approach is student-centered, and my lessons are informative and conversational. I pride myself in creating a safe and comfortable learning environment for my students based on their needs and preferences.
Lessons:
I usually do a free needs assessment or a trial class before determining what's best for my students. A needs assessment helps with determining a study plan, student needs, language goals and English level. My courses consist of 10 lessons, however I don't mind teaching one-off classes or helping you improve your general speaking ability by getting to know you in a relaxed environment.
Here's a rough breakdown of my lesson structure:
1. Warm-Up
2. Lead-In
3. Presentation
4. Practice
5. Feedback
If you have any questions let me know, I would be happy to help in any way I can.
Charl
