Hello! My name is Ron, and I’m based in the United States in the New York City metropolitan area. I worked and lived in Manhattan for the better part of my adult career and life, having graduated from New York University with a degree in magazine journalism.
Over the course of my career, I was a writer and editor for a lot at entertainment titles, so I enjoyed interviewing celebrities such as Tom Hanks, Gloria Estefan, tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams, Olympic gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi, Shania Twain, and many others. NYC is a great hub for all of its live shows, Broadway musicals and concerts — all of which I really enjoy. Some other passions of mine include pets (cats and dogs) and animals of all kinds, playing tennis, running, comedy, international music, and cooking.
Because of my schooling and work, I’ve always enjoyed exploring and playing with language — one of the reasons I decided to get my TEFL/TESOL certification. My writing and editing style has always had a conversational style, so I’m excited to help you with not only your speaking, but your writing/schoolwork as well (if that’s something you want to improve).
Throughout the years, I’ve worked with young people at summer camps, volunteered with older children and even senior citizens, so I’m confident I’ll be able to help students of all ages. As a lifelong learner of Italian, I understand the challenges and frustrations that come with absorbing a new language. I’ve even recently begun studying Maltese, which has been incredibly humbling as it’s so different from English in both its sounds and characters.
I know it helps in my own language learning to keep things fun, so that’s how I’ll approach any lessons I have with you. Silly tongue twisters can help your pronunciation, for example, and jokes, games and role-playing conversations will keep you engaged and motivated. The bonus? You’ll be improving your English every step of the way!
Plus, once I get to know you and learn what most motivates you, I’ll be sure to tailor future lessons to your strengths and interests in order to get the most out of our time together. We’ll be an unstoppable team!
Until we "meet," here are some pics for you to get to know me:
This one is from my recent trip/visit to Malta, where I have dual citizenship. My grandfather was born and raised there, and I'm beginning to learn some basic Maltese, which has been challenging but rewarding!
I love seeing Broadway musicals, and this was from a few years back at Wicked! I was lucky enough to have caught a preview of the show with its original cast (Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth) before it officially opened back in 2003. My all-time favorite musical is A Chorus Line, and some others I've loved are Chicago, Les Misérables, Cabaret, Nine, and Tina: The Tina Turner Musical.
I love playing all kinds of games (especially with the help of a cuddly kitty)! Word games like Scrabble, Wordle, Scattergories, and Taboo are so fun, but I also like math games (like this one shown here, Rummikub) and more general board games (like Monopoly). If playing word games is fun for you, too, we can play some virtually and improve your English while doing so.

Did I mention I'm an animal lover? A few years ago, I indulged one of my obsessions — baby goats! — and spent a weekend at a goat farm in New York, at which we got to feed and take care of some adorable babies.
