About me:

Hello! My name is Lizzie. I'm from Colorado in the United States, but I've also had the opportunity to live in France for over a year and in Japan for over two years! My hobbies are reading, writing, singing, and learning foreign languages. I think that being a language teacher is the most enjoyable job I've ever had.

Qualifications:

I have a Bachelor's in Arts with a major in Music and a minor in Japanese. I received my TEFL certification from the International TEFL Academy, and have taught English to adult immigrants to the United States, high school students in France, and students from age 5-80 in a small Eikaiwa school in Japan. I also have experience teaching English online to Chinese students. I've passed the N2 of the 日本語能力試験 in Japan, and I'm fairly fluent in French.

Some of my experiences include:
  • Assisting in the translation of commercial materials from Japanese into English
  • Designing and teaching a grammar-based curriculum for a Japanese university course
  • Teaching phonics and beginning English to Japanese preschool-age children
  • Teaching classes focused on listening comprehension and pronunciation for adult students
  • Helping junior high and high school students write and deliver speeches for speech contests
What to expect in class:

My biggest priority is to help you achieve your goals in a way that works for you! Learning a language is a never-ending process, and it can be tricky to identify where your weak points are. In class, we can work together to find what motivates you to study English and what you want to achieve when we work together. I will give you many opportunities to speak and try out new skills. We'll go through materials at your pace and focus on the things that make you most excited! I can explain many of the differences between Japanese and English grammar, so don't hesitate to ask questions! Together, let's take your English to the next level!
