Hello! I'm Nienna

I'm a native English speaker from the United States currently living in Kagoshima, Japan. I have over six years of experience teaching English both online and in Japan, working with learners of all ages in one-on-one lessons, small groups, and classroom settings.

Throughout my career, I've taught at an eikaiwa, worked as a homeroom teacher at an international kindergarten, provided private online English coaching, and taught writing courses at the university level. This has given me a wide range of experiences that help me adapt to each student's level and goals.

I believe the best way to improve English is by using it. My lessons are relaxed, supportive, and conversation-focused, giving you plenty of opportunities to speak in a comfortable environment. Whether you'd like to improve your fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, or confidence, I'll provide personalized feedback to help you communicate more naturally.

I enjoy getting to know my students and creating lessons around topics that genuinely interest them. My goal is to help you feel comfortable expressing yourself in English while making each lesson enjoyable and meaningful.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy hiking, cycling, poetry, cooking, composing music, and studying Japanese!

English Lessons for Children

I also offer engaging English lessons for young learners!

I have several years of experience teaching children both online and in Japan, including two years as a homeroom teacher at an international kindergarten, experience teaching at an eikaiwa, and years of one-on-one online lessons with children. Throughout my career, I've worked with learners from preschool through university, and I enjoy adapting my teaching style to each child's age, personality, and learning needs.

My children's lessons focus on creating a positive, encouraging environment where learning English is fun and interactive. For younger learners, I use songs, games, stories, movement, and hands-on activities to build vocabulary and confidence. For elementary-aged students, lessons include interactive games, reading, conversation, and age-appropriate challenges that encourage children to actively use English.

My goal is to help children develop confidence and curiosity while using English. While encouraging good pronunciation and grammar, I emphasize having fun over perfection!
