How to cope with the pandemic and lockdown

Audrey オードリー

It has been one year since Canada's first Covid 19 case.  Our lives changed since then.  Throughout the whole year, the new coronavirus has been the main topic on the news and
conversations between people.  It is hard not to go crazy after a while.  Sometimes, I want to know the developements and sometimes I don't even want to hear anything
that is Covid-related.  I wonder if most people feel this way.

Aside from worrying about being infected with the new coronavirus, many are struggling with working at home and taking care of the kids who are doing online learning at home.

The gyms are closed and lack of exercise makes us tired and maybe a bit depressed.  Exercise is very important to mental health.

Toronto winters are cold, but I still try to take a walk even though it is -2 or 3 degrees.

So, what should we do to cope with this pandemic and lockdown situation?

First of all, try NOT to think that you are in a bad situation.  If you set your mind to believe that life is miserable, then you will be miserable.

Try NOT to think of the things you cannot do, such as going to the gym, eating out with your friends, going to karaoke, etc.   If you keep thinking what you could be doing if not for the pandemic, you will start feeling sorry for yourself and eventually you will be depressed.

Try focusing on the things that you CAN do.  Working from home means you can save time and money commuting.  If the kids are home, try to set boundaries with them.  Explain to them that you need to work and set a break time to take care of them.

If you have spare time, start some new hobbies.  Learn a new language, learn to make new dishes, learn flower arrangement, anything...

If you are not interested in learning anything, that's fine.  Is there anything that you have wanted to do but didnt' have time before?  Maybe you have taken many photos over the years and haven'thad time to organize them?  Now is the time to organize them.  Throw away old clothes
and make some room in your closet.  Declutter your home.  Reorganize the room.

If you miss your friends, talk to them on Zoom, Skype or Facetime.  Take a walk together. Go to the supermarket together, but keep a safe distance.

What you SHOULDN'T do is, feel pressured to attend a drinking party or a night out with your friends or co-workers.

You are putting your own health and your family's health at risk.

Either turn down the invitation, or accept the invitation and then cancel it in the morning saying you have caught a cold.
