In Japan, we celebrate the New Year by eating osechi and ozoni. And then some people write Kakizome shodo and karuta at the beginning of the New Year, and some of the children in my class have also done their New Year Kakizome homework together.

I have also decided to start teaching Japanese at Citizen's University this year, and I have also started teaching online at Cafetalk. I will continue to keep you informed about special offers related to the Japanese language in this column.
The first announcement early this year will be a haiku competition for children. As many people know haiku, is the world's shortest poem. This year's competition is for children under 16 yearts old to write a haiku in English and submit it with drawing pictures.

今回は絵を書くのが好きな子どもたちのために、素敵なコンクールを見つけてきましたのでシェアしたいと思います。英語だけでなくてもドイツ語、フランス語などいいみたいですよ。さらに、賞品もJAL財団のコンクールだけあって、海外在住者であったら日本への航空券なのも魅力的です。ぜひ、参加してみて下さい。
